The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
