The Two Fatalities Named in Brown University Shooting as Law Enforcement Persist in Search for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who died in the recent tragic incident on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their assailant continued following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The student Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences online, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

An additional nine individuals were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a search at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“There is a killer at large,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last day or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our city”.

The shooter opened fire inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a police source reported to the Associated Press.

Officers that entered the hotel recovered a pair of pistols and magazines when the individual was detained, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Of the nine hurt, one pupil was released from the hospital, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, authorities stated on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in the city of Durham, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Tributes were paid to Cook at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was a radiant presence in that specific location as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to the Umurzokov family, friends, and peers and lament the passing of his potential.”
